Use of A , An & THE
- A : Use “A” before words that start with a consonant sound, it is used for a
single countable noun which are not specific. Example: a dog, a book, a
uniform.
- An: “An” is used before singular words that start with a vowel sound (a, e, i,
o, u). It refers to non-specific things. The choice depends purely on how the
word is spoken, not how it is spelled. Example: an apple, an hour, an honest
person.
A and An are used only once in a passage or text when you are referring to a person
or thing for first time, when you refer to the same person again, You use the before
the person or thing
Eg: A boy I standing in front of a school waiting for his father. A father of the boy’s
friend came to his help and he called the boy’s father and told him “the boy will be at
my house for studies. Pick him later”.

- THE: “The” is the definite article in English. Use it before singular or plural
nouns to point to a specific person, place, or thing that the speaker and
listener both know or have already mentioned. It is also used before unique
entities, superlative adjectives, and geographical features
